Crossing the Wire is the story of Victor, a teenage boy from Mexico who's family is on the verge of starvation. With no hope of a job, and his family's supply of food dwindling down to nothing, Victor and his mother decide that he must travel to El Norte (the United States) to try and find work so that he can send money home to help his mother, sister and brother. The journey is dangerous, especially for a 15 year-old boy who has never traveled alone by himself. With the recent passage of Arizona's new immigration bill, this story takes on new meaning for all of us. Not only do we get involved and worry and about Victor, but we also make connections to the immigration debate that is taking place in our country today.
